After Barcelona’s draw against Naples yesterday, Xavi and Henry had a live conversation on the ‘CBS Sports Golazo’ program in which it was clear the high regard they both have for each other. The Frenchman defended Xavi’s work on the Barça bench in a season where the coach has received a lot of criticism.
“I’m surprised with the work you’ve done ,” he began. “I don’t care what people say. You won LaLiga: feel proud, I know you are.”
Henry recalled the time they shared together as footballers on the Barça bench, where among other things they celebrated a Champions League victory as part of Guardiola’s Barça. “I am very proud to have shared the field with you. You taught me a lot at Barça. I will always remember the day you made me shut up and told me: ‘Speak when you win something with Barça and then you will understand what this club means’. So thanks for that”.
Furthermore, the Frenchman put Xavi on par with the coaches with a better understanding of the game . “Your brain for me is second; I think the only one I know who is above you is Pep in terms of how you see football. So I hope you come back quickly and that we see you on the pitch very quickly. I know that you still “You have the season left and all, but you know what I’m talking about, so please come back quickly.”
Given the Frenchman’s words, Xavi could only respond with praise for his contribution to Barça . “Titi, I really appreciate your words: you know that I love you very much, you had a great impact on Barça and you helped us a lot. You are a great friend,” said the Barça coach to say goodbye.
