Luis Enrique took over the job of coaching Paris Saint-Germain before the start of the current season, amid turmoil afflicting the French team, the most prominent of which was the crisis of Mbappe’s suspension and the failure to extend his contract.
The Parisian team is not progressing steadily in the French League or the Champions League. In the domestic competition, it ranks third behind Monaco and Nice, while it suffered a resounding defeat in the major European championship 4-1 against Newcastle in the second round of the group stage.
On the other hand, the French newspaper Le Parisien revealed a tense conversation that took place between Luis Enrique and the Italian midfielder, Marco Verratti, which ultimately led to his departure from Paris Saint-Germain after 11 years he spent there.
According to what was reported by the French newspaper, Luis Enrique said to Marco Verratti: “You are the prototype of the game that I hate.” It is clear after these statements that the Spanish coach opened the doors wide for the Italian player to leave Paris Saint-Germain.
During pre-season, Luis Enrique did not start Marco Verratti in any matches, making it even clearer that the Italian was not part of his plans for the 23/24 season. With the relationship with Paris Saint-Germain ultras also broken, the midfielder had no choice but to leave the Parc des Princes.
A few weeks ago, Paris Saint-Germain completed the sale of Marco Verratti for €45 million. The Italian, who was not among Luis Enrique’s plans to play, headed to Al Arabi in Qatar to continue his sporting career.
