The British newspaper Daily Mail said that the future of the Spanish coach, Pep Guardiola, the current coach of Manchester City, may witness a radical change in the near future and may have a new destination.
Guardiola had previously confirmed that he did not mind coaching national teams when he said: “If the opportunity arises, training one of the national teams is the next step. I have to take a break after seven years. I would like to coach in the European Cup, the Copa America or the World Cup.”
According to the British newspaper, Guardiola is the most prominent candidate to succeed Gareth Southgate to coach the England national team after the 2024 European Nations Cup, which will be held in Germany in the middle of next year.
The English coach is considering ending his term as coach of the Three Lions after the European Nations Cup in Germany next year. The Football Association is aware of this possibility, so has started planning for the future on the national team benches.
For his part, Guardiola is the favorite in the list of candidates for the position of coach of the English national team. Guardiola will be the FA’s dream coach from 2024, although they also manage other options such as Graham Potter or Brendan Rogers .
However, the English will find themselves face to face with Guardiola’s complex contractual situation at Manchester City. The Catalan coach has a contract with City until 2025, twelve months after the European Cup.
