The Spanish newspaper AS described what Jose Bordalas, coach of the Getafe team, said as a serious accusation against Xavi Hernandez, coach of Barcelona.
Barcelona had tied negatively against Getafe in the first round match of La Liga, which witnessed a lot of arbitration controversy. Three cases of expulsion, including two cases for Barcelona: Ravenha before the end of the first half and Xavi because of his improper objection to referee Soto Grado.
What sparked the most controversy was Araujo’s obstruction inside the Getafe penalty area in the final minutes of stoppage time. The referee went to watch the replay via video technology and returned and awarded a handball on Javi amid Barcelona players’ demands for a penalty kick.
For his part, Xavi Hernandez attacked the referee, accusing him of causing tension in the match, and criticized the League, describing that the Spanish League would become a failed product in this way if they wanted to sell it.
Bordalas responded, in statements that AS described as a serious accusation against Xavi for defaming La Liga, saying: “ I do not agree to blame the referees, Xavi does not serve our league, we have to defend the league and not criticize it. They took more cards than us and the most violent scene in the match was what the Barcelona player (Ravenha) did.”
