Barcelona need to free up the wage bill if they are to sign deals this summer. The club, according to “Sport”, has already begun work to speed up the process. The plan is to sell players that Xavi is not counting on, if possible, before June 30.
Financial Fair Play causes a headache for Barcelona. Until the Catalan club can release wages, the club cannot sign players.
With this uncertainty, some players awaiting a call from Barcelona chose to sign for other clubs as already happened with Messi who did not sign for this reason and the club does not want to repeat that with any other player.
Barcelona had no choice but to tackle the “departure process” first. The club knows they are in a rush to get rid of players if they are to bring in reinforcements this summer.
Sport claims that Barcelona are already working on several farewells. There are players who have finished their loan spells and have no place in Xavi’s plans, so they are looking for a way out: Lenglet, Umtiti, Dest, Collado and Gustavo Maia.
Barcelona would like to sell these players, if possible, before June 30th. If they can get rid of these five players, the club will save 50m in wages, giving them scope to sign new deals.
In principle, the person who would find it easier to leave would be Lenglet. The player recently returned from his loan spell at Tottenham, but Tottenham were happy with him and could immediately start negotiations to sign him. Barcelona could get 10 million for his sale.
