Tottenham dealt a heavy blow to Barcelona

The English club Tottenham dealt a strong blow to the aspirations of the Spanish club Barcelona in the current summer Mercato, according to the Catalan newspaper Sport.

Barcelona seeks to strengthen the ranks of its team with strong deals in order to be able to compete in the elite again. But to be able to conclude new contracts, he must first reduce the salary block and get rid of some players who have no place in Xavi’s squad.

One of the players that Barcelona decided to leave in a final sale was French defender Clement Lenglet, but Tottenham Hotspur announced that he would leave the club after the end of his loan period.

Tottenham finally ruled out buying Lenglet. The London club seemed very interested in keeping the French central defender after his performance last season on loan, but the arrival of the new coach, Ange Postecoglou, and the failure to agree with Barcelona on the transfer price, aborted the process.

Barcelona wanted to recover a large part of the 36 million it invested in the summer of 2018 and began pricing Lenglet at 20 million euros. It seemed that the positions were close to understanding, but Barcelona asked for 12 million, and “Tottenham” was only willing to pay half of that amount.

Therefore, Lenglet will be under the orders of Xavi Hernandez on July 10, the date set for the start of the season, if the sports administration does not find a new destination for him.
