After 15 years in the Barcelona first team, Sergio Busquets has made the decision to say goodbye to the club of his life. The legendary midfielder has nominated three players to replace him.
There is a lot of talk about the players who will succeed you. Are you following up?
Yes Yes. I know there is a lot of talk about some players, about Rodri, about Zubemendi, they are very good players and maybe they are the ones who match the DNA and the style that are needed here, but they are in another team, they belong to another club.
What do you think of Kimmich from Bayern?
It’s a little different, it’s German football. In the end, not only do you have to search for the same DNA, but you have to search for players with other profiles that might be important for certain matches.
But we also have players at home, we have Neko, who’s on loan, and I think he’s doing a very good job, despite the fact that he lacks a bit of continuity. But he has a lot of talent, he has a lot of advantages and you have to give a chance to the people of the house, to the youth.
And financially, you know you’re not going to spend money on a deal, and today I don’t know if we qualify. Nico also understands the club and the style of play. We have players who contribute a lot to us and we didn’t expect that.
Are all three, then, the closest thing to Barcelona style?
I like all three very much, and I also met two of them in the national team. With zoopimendi coincided less. We’ve also faced each other in LaLiga and in the Cup, and I think those three are the closest to Barcelona’s DNA, who can contribute the most.
Then if you want to sign others with a more physical profile, or a bit more defensive, that’s also possible. And there are players on the team who can adapt.
