Benjamin Pavard could be Barcelona’s next right-back. As confirmed by “Sky Germany”, the French international player asked to leave Bayern Munich this summer, refusing the option to renew his contract, which expires in 2024.
Pavard wants the German club to listen to offers and will be clear about his fate pointing to Barcelona as long as economic conditions are favorable.
The French defender wants to end his period in the German league, taking advantage of the serious sports crisis that the Bavarian team is suffering from, which will make his price suitable.
Pavard was offered to Barcelona a few months ago by his agent, Benny Zahavi, who maintains great relations with the Blaugrana’s president, Joan Laporta.
The agent already engineered Lewandowski’s arrival last summer, and now he’s also focused on closing Yannick Carrasco at the Camp Nou in a bid to get Atletico to lower his price stipulated in Barcelona’s option to buy.
The Bayern Munich full-back is beloved at Barcelona, although interest had waned due to the player’s determination to want to play more as a centre-back.
But in recent weeks, an agreement has been reached and Pavard will accept the right-back and central-defense roles of the Blaugrana side. The coaches liked Foyth (Villarreal) more, but Pavard was always on the list and they will go for him as long as Bayern set a reasonable price.
Initially, Bayern Pavard was estimated at around 35 million euros, a figure that Barcelona considers exorbitant because he has one year left on his contract. Now comes Zahavi’s work with Bayern Munich to find a deal workable for all parties without excluding any player exchanges.
Barcelona has several open avenues for signing a full-back, but Pavard’s profile fits due to his defensive strength and international experience. He has the approval of the coaches despite the presence of other defenders such as Diogo Dalot (Manchester United), Cancelo (City) or Foyth (Villarreal), although the price of the latter is very high.
