Bayern Munich received two powerful blows before facing Barcelona on Tuesday at the Camp Nou in the first round of the Champions League group stage 2021/22.
In attack, there is a noticeable doubt about the participation of Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski with Bayern Munich in next Tuesday’s match against Barcelona, after they were substituted against Leipzig on Saturday in the German League.
Gnabry has “something in his back” and coach Julian Nagelsmann has suggested it could be back pain, while Lewandowski is feeling some discomfort which could leave him without traveling to Barcelona.
Nagelsmann explained Serge Gnabry’s physical condition, saying: “I don’t know if he can recover soon or if he can last longer than Tuesday. I hope he’s ready for Tuesday, but I can’t say that with certainty.”
Regarding Lewandowski, Nagelsmann said: “Lewandowski felt some discomfort, some tension, and his replacement was as a precaution, and I don’t think there is anything serious.”
In the event that Gnabry does not recover, his replacement is likely to be Jamal Musiyala, who produced an impressive second half against RB Leipzig. Kingsley Coman will be another substitute but he is back from injury and is unsure of his preparation for Tuesday. For Lewandowski, his natural replacement is Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
